The NEA Representative Assembly took place this year July 1-6 in Washington D.C.
KEA was represented by more than 125 delegates from across the state. College students, classified, certified, administrative, and retired members from all 50 states and the Federal Education Association gathered at the Washington Convention Center to conduct the annual business meeting of the NEA. Delegates attended 5 days of exhaustive caucuses and forums designed to make policies and decisions which guide and support our association towards its continued path of advocacy for students and employees in public education.
KEA Central District was represented by 17 delegates from seven locals including: Boyle, Fayette, Fayette Co KESPA, Jackson, Jessamine, Madison, and Montgomery.
Delegates elected new NEA officers as well: Dennis VanRoekel, President; Lily Eskelsen, Vice-President;and Becky Pringle, Secretary-Treasurer
Barbara Morgan, a teacher from Idaho and NASA's first Educator Astronaut, was awarded the 2008 Friend of Education Award. She presented NEA President Reg Weaver with a collage of items from her space mission.
